ASHTON 88 are on the hunt for the next generation of female footballers after receiving a £1,500 Grow the Game grant.

The scheme, funded by the Football Association and delivered by the Football Foundation, will enable Ashton 88 to create a girls' under eights team from September.

They will be made up of girls in school years two and three.

Ashton chairman Graham Begley said: “It is a great opportunity for girls to get involved in the game.

"The FA and the Football Foundation have provided us with the opportunity to provide this provision in the area and we feel this is vital in ensuring the longevity of girls’ participation through each stage of development.

"With this funding we can support the demand that could potentially follow the Women’s World Cup.”
