How they rated:

Bromsgrove 0, Stourbridge 1

Bromsgrove:

Breeden: Made a string of good saves including two in the second half from Mike Taylor. Assured as ever on the ball and even fired in a late effort after going up for a few corners. 7.5.

Westwood: Good distribution down the left and carried the ball well when his side were on top in the first half. 6.

Wilson: Another fine display to shackle Mills for most of the game, especially a good recovery tackle in the first half. However, Stour got in down the left for their winning goal as Mills found space in the box. 7.

Hayward: A busy display from the midfielder. Had his work cut out against Stour’s impressive three-man midfield but always looking for the ball. 6.

Broadhurst: Did brilliantly in the first half against Mike Taylor and nipped in to win possession time and time again. Calming influence on Sporting’s back line. 7.

Hull: Did well to defend but also cause Stour problems at set-pieces. Saw a couple of headers saved by Wren in the first half. Can have no complaints about either booking though. 5.

Dowd: Always at his best when given room to dribble beyond defenders and he did that on a number of occasions. Only the final ball let him down a few times after working good positions. Saw a late drive spilt by the keeper but the ball was gathered at the second attempt. 7.

Quaynor: Saw plenty of the ball and got Sporting on the front foot early in the game. Continued to be an option as his side went looking for a way back. 6.

McDonald: His pace is always a threat. Dragged a late chance wide of the post as Sporting couldn’t find that all important finish. 6.5.

Thompson-Brown: Struggled to have an impact against his former club. A couple of driving runs from deep but not much else. 5.

Shorrock: Full of energy in midfield. Got his foot in to win the ball back and found some good areas, especially early on as Sporting started brightly. 6.

Subs: Pykett: Gave Stour something to think about down the right flank but blazed a late chance over the bar when he should have done better. 6.

Taylor: Did well when he came on to prevent Stour from breaking on Bromsgrove. Won a few challenges and calm in possession. 6.5.

Gregory: Came on as Sporting looked for a way back. Add a different threat in the box and caused a few problems but couldn’t work Wren. 6.

Unused subs: Brown, Massey, Rankin, Perry.

Stourbridge:

Wren: Collected the ball well all afternoon but was well protected by his back line in the second half as Sporting struggled to test him. Let a late Dowd drive slip through his grasp but was able to gather in time. 7.

Green: A reliant performer for the Glassboys and did well to defend late on. Provided one chance for Taylor in the second half and also carried the ball out at a key time late on. 7.

Brown: Another fine showing from the defender, this time shifted to centre back from left back. Strong, reads the game well and made good decisions as Sporting kept the pressure on at the end. 7.

Carter: Looked solid alongside Brown and kept things simple with the ball at feet. 7.

Fisher: A fine debut from the left-back. Did his defensive duties well and got forward on occasions too. 7.

Turton: Played an important role as Stour’s midfield three took control of the game at the start of the second half. Found good pockets of space and cut down the space when Sporting had the ball. 7.

Bellis: Brilliant showing from the midfielder who made the visitors tick. Always getting on the ball and finding team-mates with accurate passes forward. 8.

Winwood: Did well in front of the back four to shut down space and collect the ball in tight areas. 6.5.

Taylor: Struggled in the first half to hold up the ball but did better in the second. Worked hard to offer an option up top but squandered two good chances when being played in in either half. 6.5.

Grocott: An impressive performance from the attacker. A big creative influence and helped create the winner 7.5.

Mills: Had to work hard against Wilson but found a way to provide that one moment of finishing quality to win it. 7.

Subs: Lloyd: Late change as Stour looked for a target man to hold onto the ball. 6.

Botfield: Good late energy as Stour held on. 6.

Tonks: Another who provided good energy to help his side home. 6.

Unused subs: Price, Landell, Cook, Tilt.
