DUDLEY Kingswinford got the new Midlands One West season off to a winning start.

DK beat Whitchurch 52-24 at Heathbrook last Saturday as they prepare for another promotion bid.

Director of rugby Neil Shillingford was pleased with his side's win but insisted there is still much to be done on the training field.

He said: "I was happy with the final result but there is still plenty for us to work on.

"I don't think the scoreline quite reflected how close the game really was.

"We let them back in the game a few times instead of getting to that stage where we are two scores ahead and able to manage it properly.

"All-in-all I'm pleased, especially with the way we had the same mentality as last season where we really chased that bonus point.

"There are always things to work on at this stage of the season but it's just about recognising that and putting the work in during the first month. We'll soon find out who the strong sides are going to be this season.

"I think we have a stronger squad compared to last season and our aim once again will be promotion."

DK have been strengthen by the return from injury of Harry Baylis and the addition of Josh Melvin and former Old Hales man Matt Williams.

"Harry is an old DK lad but it's great to have him back involved with the club again," added Shillingford.

"Josh did really well on his debut and Matt Williams came on late on and helped us control the game.

"He's a talented and experienced player and it'll be good if we can integrate him into the coaching set-up at some stage. He's only been with us a week so is just here to play at the moment."
