OLD Halesonians returned to winning ways with a narrow 12-10 win over Sutton Coldfield.

The home team started strongly gaining a quick line out on Sutton's five-meter line. They caught the ball and a big drive by the pack sent the ball over the try line to be scored by Brad Cogzell.

Fly half Luke Fenton missed the conversion as the score stayed at 5-0.

Sutton started to get into the game and got a penalty in Old Hales half following persistent off side and they scored to make the score 5-3.

Good attacking rugby from both teams peppered with mistakes on both sides, Sutton's outside centre collected the ball just outside Old Halesonians half and danced through several Old Hales players with some woeful missed tackles to score by the posts, converted by Sutton's fly half to make the score 10-5 to the visitors at half time.

Both sides came out with good attacking play after the break, resulting in a good display of rugby from both sides.

Old Hales started to dominate the scrum and were camped on Sutton's goal line for a long period.

With persistent mistakes from the visiting side, and penalties conceded, Old Hales number 8 Loz Breeze went over the line to score the try. Fenton converted to make the score 12-10.

For the final 10 minutes, both sides attacked well but couldn't score. In the final minute, Old Halesonians were caught off-side and gave away a penalty virtually in front of the posts. What should have been an easy kick was missed and Old Hales then managed to keep hold of the ball to see out the dying seconds.

Coach James Angove said: "It was pleasing to get a win today, performance we will continue to work on in training. We had no yellow cards today which is an improvement although still too many mistakes and penalties given away. We hope to put this right in our game next week away at Whitchurch."
