A HIGH-FLYING Stourbridge-born director is hoping to put the town on the map with a brand new TV comedy series - and he’s on the look-out for supporting stars and extras.

Award-winning film-maker Céin McGillicuddy, who has tasted success at The Raindance Film Festival, Bafta and the International Emmy awards, hopes to give Starsky and Hutch a run for their money with his new comedy series Top Coppers - about two ginger-haired law-enforcers called Mahogany and Rust.

Being billed as a cross between Father Ted and Blazing Saddles with a pinch of Airplane or Anchorman thrown in - the show has so far received plenty of interest from Channel 4 and will feature Kayvan Novak, star of Channel 4's Facejacker'.

Céin, however, is now looking for aspiring Stourbridge actors of all ages to get involved as supporting artists and extras.

The 27-year-old said: "People are so friendly back home that it made sense to come and film Top Coppers here and get the local community involved.

“This is an area we don't see enough of on the telly and I want to change that. Stourbridge and the whole of the West Midlands is a great place with a varied history and amazing architecture and locations, so let's show them what we've got.

“We're going out on a limb to make Top Coppers, it's a completely independent production with a lot of passion behind it, so who knows what the future could hold in store.”

The series, which will be shot in Stourbridge from October 3 to 16, is the brainchild of Céin and his housemates Andy Kinnear, aged 26, from Kent, and Dan McGaughey, aged 26, from Essex, who all began their TV careers at Bournemouth University’s media school.

Aspiring actors young and old can apply to feature in Top Coppers by emailing a recent photo, their date of birth and contact details to casting@cein.co.uk
