A COUPLE who have taken over an Old Hill venue which had its licence revoked over noise complaints are appealing for the council to let them use an empty car park nearby.

Sandwell Council has refused Sandip and Dalveer Gillar’s request to use the car park it owns on Haden Road, which is closed.

The couple are spending £35k refurbishing The Regis on Reddall Hill Road and will open it as Luxor Events in May.

They want the building to become a community hub hosting baby groups and exercise classes as well as private events including weddings and parties.

The Regis does not have a car park, with the couple appealing for people to back a petition calling for the council to reverse its decision.

Sandip, aged 35, said: “The car park spaces on the side road were taken by guests to The Regis, and it caused inconvenience and frustration for the community.

“We don't want this to happen when we open, as we want to work in harmony with the local community.

“It doesn't make sense for the car park to stay empty and not in use when it could be used to help The Regis thrive under new management and help the community grow and be proud.

“We need the local community's help by signing this petition to send a clear message to the council that the community wants to have access to this car park.”

Sandip said when businessman Tony Billingham owned The Regis the venue was allowed to use the car park, but after it was sold this arrangement was discontinued.

A Sandwell Council spokesperson said: “The car park at Haden Road/Reddal Hill Road in Old Hill is closed as a public car park.

“There are no plans for it to be reopened.

“The site of the car park forms part of a planning review of the wider Cradley Heath area, which will consider the future use for the Haden Road car park site.

“This may include development of the site.

“A long stay public car park providing 46 spaces is located on Highgate Street, which is only a short walk from The Regis venue.”
